Denise Courter is the Founder of www.FiDiFamilies.com and is a working Mom of two children, ages 12 and 10. She is a California native who moved to New York City for an internet startup, Govworks.com, in 2000. The move to the Big Apple ultimately led her to career in Human Resources. She became a Human Resources consultant for Cantor Fitzgerald in September 2001, following the tragic events on 9/11. She worked closely with the team at the Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund, the 9/11 Victims Compensation Fund and the Human Resource Department to help rebuild the firm through 2009. She then pursued her career as a licensed group insurance broker with Crystal & Company and worked on Wall Street with successful hedge funds, professional sports teams, high-end luxury retail firms and non-profits throughout the United States.
In September 2012, the FiDi Families blog was launched and word quickly spread throughout the FiDi community that the blog was the best source of fun activities for the growing population of FiDi Families. Friends in surrounding neighborhoods asked her to publicize events in Tribeca and Battery Park and beyond and the blog evolved into a website that covered neighborhoods below 14th Street and all of Lower Manhattan. In the summer of 2013, Denise left the corporate world to pursue the official launch of the blog into a full-fledged website.
She is the former Lifestyle and Family Editor for DOWNTOWN Magazine NYC, and a contributor to the Today Show Parenting Team. She is a Disney Social Media Mom and participates in corporate events and blogger conferences around the country, including DSMM, BlogHer and the Mom 2.0 Summit. She is a member of the Peck Slip School and Spruce Street School PTA and a board member of the FiDi Neighborhood Association. She has also been an advisor for the Black Gotham Experience and on the Habitat for Humanity Leadership Council. FiDi Families is a proud sponsor of the Downtown Community Center Youth Basketball League and Downtown Little League.
The goal of FiDi Families is to be the best local online resource for fun activities for children of all ages in Lower Manhattan. Join the FiDi Families Newsletter for regular updates.
