Barnes & Noble My Favorite Teacher Contest. The 2016 “Barnes & Noble My Favorite Teacher Contest,” has begun. This contest provides middle and high school students the opportunity to tell their communities how much they appreciate their teachers.
Students can nominate their teacher by writing essays, poems, or letters sharing how their teacher has influenced their life and why they appreciate and admire their teacher. Participating schools will collect the essays and submit them to their local Barnes & Noble store for consideration. Entries will be judged on the nature of the teacher’s qualities, the sincerity of the student’s appreciation, and the quality of writing.
Teachers from 1st grade to 12th grade are eligible for nomination. Awards include cash prizes, NOOK® by Samsung devices, and more. The contest will broken down into local and regional winners.
There will be a spring event at the Barnes & Noble store nearest to the local winner. Here, they will receive a special award acknowledging their achievement and additional recognition from their community. The student who wrote the winning essay or poem will receive a certificate of recognition and also be honored at the ceremony.
Regional winners will receive a $500 Barnes & Noble gift card and a NOOK by Samsung. From this pool of winners, Barnes & Noble will name one teacher the Barnes & Noble National Teacher of the Year. This teacher will receive $5,000 and the title of “Barnes & Noble My Favorite Teacher of the Year,” will be recognized at a special community celebration at their local Barnes & Noble store, and their school will receive $5,000. The student who writes the national winning essay, poem, or letter will win a $500 Barnes & Noble gift card and a NOOK by Samsung device.

Calling all NYC kids and families for a totally awesome event. It’s Peg + Cat Storytime at Barnes and Noble. Come enjoy a storytelling and book-signing event with creators of hit TV and book series Peg + Cat. There will be Meet-n-Greet with the series creators and costumed characters. Kids across the city are invited to celebrate the launch of Peg + Cat: The Race Car Problem. This is the first picture book inspired by the top-rated TV show.

Peg + Cat, produced by The Fred Rogers Company was launched on PBS KIDS in Fall 2013. This show was an instant hit with children, parents, and critics! The series proceeded to win four Emmy Awards, including there most recent: 2015 Emmy for “Outstanding Writing in a Preschool Animated Program.”
The series features Peg, Cat, and their friends as they embark on relatable and funny adventures, with upbeat original music, and the idea of teamwork, math, and problem-solving to overcome their challenges. The Fred Rogers Company is producing a second season of 25 new episodes for PBS KIDS.
Peg + Cat: The Race Car Problem is the first in a new picture book series from Candlewick Entertainment. This book is written and illustrated by the show creators Jennifer Oxley and Billy Aronson. The books translate all the best qualities of the hit TV show and encourage kids to have fun while putting their math skills to the test! Look out for the second book in the series, Peg + Cat: The Pizza Problem, coming out in February 2016!
