It’s everyones favorite time of year and you and your family definitely don’t want to miss this special celebration in our neighborhood. The Seaport District NYC kicks off the holiday season with its 33rd annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on Tuesday, November 29 at 6:30 pm, presented by Hallmark Channel.
Attendees can enjoy complimentary hot cocoa and will receive a rain poncho, if needed. Plus, view a fantastic light show, presented by the Hallmark Channel.
To celebrate the nautical history of New York’s “oldest new neighborhood,” this year’s 60-foot Norway Spruce from Hinsdale, PA will be decorated with a “Constellation” theme depicting the tools sailors of the Old World used to traverse the globe. Held on the Fulton Street cobblestones, the tree lighting evening will include special live performances by Vy Higginsen’s Gospel Choir of Harlem and Grace VanderWaal, winner of the 2016 season of America’s Got Talent, singing songs from her debut EP.
We can’t wait to see all our FiDi Families there for a wonderful evening!

Jason Bishop is an award-winning illusionist, who is currently performing his show “Straight Up Magic” at The New Victory Theater. We had the opportunity to see him in action and it was jaw dropping and definitely worth the trek out of the neighborhood!
Jason incorporates traditional illusion tricks and takes them to a whole new level. This 1 hour and 45 minute show gives you a close up view of some of the craziest sleight-of-hand magic in over a dozen separate tricks. With a high tech spin, our favorite trick was making a live goldfish appear out of an iPod. One minute you are watching a cute animation of a goldfish swimming across the iPod screen, the next minute the goldfish is in his hand and he’s putting into in a glass of water. My son’s eyes were wide with excitement and disbelief as he made his assistant levitate into the air more then once to heights unimaginable. With just the right amount of audience interaction and bringing guests into the stage, this was a very entertaining and magical show for all!
Date(s): November 23rd – November 27th

The Downtowner radio show welcomes Sabrina Lippman of Habitat for Humanity to the program on Thursday. This incredible organization has built homes throughout NY to help families that would not otherwise have the chance to own a home. The not-for-profit organization is based in the Financial District and is launching some great programs in Manhattan and Brooklyn, including a “Gingerbread Build” in SoHo, hosting the very successful “Women Build” event and many other fun and creative programs to help support the families that Habitat for Humanity supports. Their mission is to transform lives by building quality homes with families in need and by uniting all New Yorkers around the cause of affordable housing.
The 2nd half of our show will include a visit from Sheryl Katz, of Kids in the Game. This great organization is dedicated to developing New York City’s youth by providing opportunities through sports and fitness to the schools and communities they serve. Their goal is to encourage the next generation of leaders by instilling healthy habits, practicing an active lifestyle, and promoting personal growth through play and competition.
