And the winner is…
The Butterfly Girl is a new production by the Vital Theatre Company and its a must-see for the mini-me set. The story of Velma and her wish to be noticed, as her own person, is told in a very sweet way by the star of the show, the youngest Gratch sister, Velma. The sets were simple, the songs were catchy and fun and the butterfly story held the attention of my 4 year old. The show is geared towards the 2 – 7 year old set. The theatre is located on the Upper West Side and easy to get to from Lower Manhattan. Simply hop on the Red Line, exit at the 72nd Street station and walk a few blocks north to the theatre.
The Butterfly Girl Backstory:
Velma Gratch is excited to start first grade, but when she does she finds herself overshadowed by her older sisters! While searching for a way to stand out, Velma discovers she has a passion for butterflies! When one lands on her finger, she’s in heaven! But what is she to do when it doesn’t fly away? A charming story of a girl and a butterfly, and Velma’s metamorphosis into something unique and special.
We are excited to giveaway a family 4-pack of tickets to one lucky friend of FiDi Families! To learn more, please see our giveaway link…
Go Fish “Catch and Release”. Join Master Anglers from Battery Park City Conservancy, plus kids and adults alike as they experience “catch and release” fishing in Battery Park. An added bonus…rods and bait are provided to all participants. Everyone will have a chance to drop a line for some of the 30-plus species of fish that live in New York Bay (the Hudson River’s estuary). During GO FISH, barbless hooks minimize injuries to both fish and participants. Fish are placed in saltwater tanks for observation and identification before being released back into the Hudson. Live demonstrations and displays teach fish anatomy and heighten awareness of the ecology, flourishing marine life and current state of good health of the Hudson River and its estuary. Art projects and other activities will be available.
The afternoon will also include live music with Key Wilde & Mr. Clarke at 12:30p.
