Jazz Age Lawn Party. Governor’s Island is one of the best-kept secrets in NYC. If you and your family have not visited this wonderful oasis of beauty, then make plans to head there this asap. The annual Jazz Age Lawn Party is this weekend and it is a family-friendly event. Families dress in 1920’s inspired costumes and dance on the lawn to amazing music from the Dreamland Orchestra. It has become one of the premiere family events in NYC and transportation is free. Enjoy carnival games, music, food and exhibits and more. Looking for a great way to celebrate the end of Summer? FiDi Families Insiders: Tickets are CASH only and its a good idea to bring cash and not rely on credit card machines!
Transportation: Take the ferry from the Battery Maritime Building, on the corner of South and Whitehall Streets. Ferries leave at 10a, 11a and every half hour after until 7p. Return ferries to Manhattan leave every half hour beginning at 10:30a with the last ferry departing Governors Island at 7p. Ferry is $2/rider.
