Bi-Weekly Exploring Art + Technology Labs at National Museum of American Indian

February 16, 2019 by Teresa Nhat Wang

NMAI in New York

Conuco is a Taíno word for a traditional family garden where Native plant technology and farming practices thrive! Throughout the Caribbean, conucos continue to serve as sites for cultural continuity and gathering. Similarly, a bodega, or a small grocery store, is a cultural gathering space that supports many aspects of community life for Caribbeans and others living in New York City. Inspired by the Taíno: Native Heritage and Identity in the Caribbean exhibition and the work of Dominican American artist and NMAI’s Youth Leadership Council Member, Gisselle Jiménez, explore cultural connections as you learn more about Native plant technology and create your own bodega-style planter!

Date: Saturday, February 16

Time: 1:oopm – 4:00pm

Location: 1 Bowling Green – National Museum of the American Indian

Fee: Free – BUT MUST REGISTER (212) 514-3705 or NMAI-NY-education@si.edu
