9/11 Tribute Center

9/11 Tribute Museum Day of Service & Remembrance

August 30, 2019 by Denise Courter

9/11 Tribute Museum Day of Service & Remembrance

On September 11th, the world will remember the victims and families affected by the tragic events that occurred 18 years ago in Lower Manhattan. Many individuals and companies launched a variety of campaigns to honor those victims with a day of service. Now is the time to donate to this fabulous effort for the 11th annual 9/11 National Day of Service & Remembrance, hosted by the 9/11 Tribute Museum, held at the Oculus at Westfield World Trade Center.

Volunteer teams and first responders will help assemble bicycles to donate to the children of active-duty United States military and fellow emergency service personnel. Last year, over 500 employees from companies directly impacted by 9/11 participated in the bike build in remembrance of loved ones, friends and colleagues, and to unite in the same remarkable way that the nation came together in the aftermath of the attacks of 9/11. As in years past, the NYPD, FDNY and PAPD will be present to support the 9/11 Tribute Museum in remembering and supporting our military and first responder families. Stop by the Oculus to watch the assembly of the bikes for well-deserving kids.

Date: Wednesday, September 25th

Time: 10:00 am – 3:30 pm

Location: Oculus at World Trade Center

FiDi Families are invited to a special event at the end of April, unique to Lower Manhattan. Families will have an opportunity to meet Yogi, the FDNY firehouse Dalmatian from Engine 74 on the Upper West Side. This special NYC favorite four-legged friend will be making his way downtown for a visit to the 9/11 Tribute Center. Yogi is participating in a special 45 minute workshop on the important role that four-legged friends have played in the FDNY.

Attendees will have a chance to meet Lt. James Kirby, Firefighter John Keaveny and Firefighter Bobby Stanlewicz, as they share their personal stories of life with a Dalmatian at their firehouse.

The 9/11 Tribute Center is committed to providing an education to young people about the dedication of people who perform service for others. The FDNY is an example of service providers who support New York City.

FiDi Families Insiders: Admission is free, but reservations are strongly suggested by emailing RSVP@tributewtc.org

Date: April 26th

Time: 3pm – 3:45pm

Ages: All ages welcome

Fee: Free to attend

Life is funny. A year ago I was celebrating 20 yea Life is funny. A year ago I was celebrating 20 years of calling NYC home. A year later, our family is on a crazy career adventure in Miami, with a lot of unknowns.

But, we do know that we only get one life to live and jumping in feet first is the only way to live life to the fullest, at least in our minds 😂.

We are already in love with the Miami weather, the happy people, the gorgeous beaches 🏝 and the day tripping way of life. We arrived in FL w a suitcase each and a mask 😷. Happy that we are surrounded by mask-wearers. Wasn’t sure what to expect. But, we will be back in NYC this summer. Lots of decisions to make between now and then. But also lots of fun and exploring over the next few months.

The silver lining of the Covid world we live in is remote learning allows us to travel and say yes to new beginnings. Stay tuned for updates on the next chapter for our website, too.
