Apply for Free Pre-K Starting Today! New York City Department of Education offers free pre-kindergarten to all NYC families. The application process for this fall begins today! If the parent or guardian lives in New York City and the child was born in 2011, he or she is eligible. This program is available at NYC Department of Education district schools, charter schools and NYC Early Education Centers. You can apply to up to 12 schools and can list them in priority order for their review. Admission is first-come first-served, so make sure you complete the application as soon as possible.
