Young Sprouts Gardening

September 28, 2015 by Deirdre McAndrew

Young Sprouts Gardening

Young Sprouts Gardening. The Battery Park City Conservancy is once again hosting its gardening program which includes simple gardening projects appropriate for preschoolers. Activities include, planting seeds, watering the garden, and tasting fresh greens and vegetables. Everything is organically grown.

Your children will see a variety of plants, butterflies, insects, worms, and birds, and the part the play in the natural cycle of the garden. They will feel cool water on a hot day and the different textures of leaves and plants in the garden. They will smell herbs such as lemon verbena, dill, mint, and basil, as well as flowers such as, lavender, marigold, and scented geraniums.

Each week there will be a new, garden-themed lesson. Some of these lessons talk about pollinators, worms, seeds, weather, flowers, birds, and more. They’ll have fun in the garden doing plant scavenger hunts and reading nature books related to different themes. Come expose your children to these outdoor activities at a young age to develop a lifelong love of nature. Arrive on time, spaces is limited. We also ask that you please accompany your child here.

Art And Games At Rockefeller Park
Art And Games At Rockefeller Park! Battery Park City Parks Conservancy presents two programs to keep your kids busy!

In the morning hours Rockefeller Park will be dedicated to your preschoolers! An artist/educator will present a new art project that is perfect for the skill set of toddlers and preschoolers! All materials will be provided, dress for a mess!

Later in the afternoon Art + Games will be open to your older school-age children! Join the group for fun and creative art activities in addition to lawn games! This is the perfect way for all of their kids to spend Thursdays this summer!

Battery Park City extends for over a mile along the Hudson River, from Chambers Street South to the Battery in Lower Manhattan. Battery Park City Park Conservancy believes in developing an environmental consciousness to the public. They carry this vision out through programs they offer and the amazing upkeep of the land throughout Battery Park.

Rockefeller Park contains most of BPC Parks’ wide lawns, in addition to a large playground, plantings and gardens, public art pieces, and a sheltered pavilion. BPC Parks staff are also available to provide assistance and information at the Park House, off River Terrace between Murray Street and Park Place West.

June 30, 2015 by Deirdre McAndrew

Teardrop Park

Wednesday’s in Teardrop Park. This is an afternoon of fun for school-age children to join in creative art activities and spirited games in Teardrop Park every Wednesday. Artists of all ages and abilities are welcome! Come enjoy the beautiful outdoor weather while completing paintings, collages, sculptures, and art projects inspired by nature! The art portion occurs during the entire duration of the program, for children who prefer this over running around!

After testing their creativity, let the lawn games begin! Starting at 4:30 children will take advantage of the Teardrop Park landscape through a number of group games. These will cater to children with an array of interests with games ranging from but not limited to dramatic play to tag and capture the flag.

Your children will come home to you with a wonderful art project and tired out from an afternoon filled with fun!

Life is funny. A year ago I was celebrating 20 yea Life is funny. A year ago I was celebrating 20 years of calling NYC home. A year later, our family is on a crazy career adventure in Miami, with a lot of unknowns.

But, we do know that we only get one life to live and jumping in feet first is the only way to live life to the fullest, at least in our minds 😂.

We are already in love with the Miami weather, the happy people, the gorgeous beaches 🏝 and the day tripping way of life. We arrived in FL w a suitcase each and a mask 😷. Happy that we are surrounded by mask-wearers. Wasn’t sure what to expect. But, we will be back in NYC this summer. Lots of decisions to make between now and then. But also lots of fun and exploring over the next few months.

The silver lining of the Covid world we live in is remote learning allows us to travel and say yes to new beginnings. Stay tuned for updates on the next chapter for our website, too.
