The Salvation Army Angel Tree holiday program in Lower Manhattan – Sponsor a Child or Senior this holiday season!

November 26, 2019 by Denise Courter

The Salvation Army Angel Tree holiday program in Lower Manhattan - Sponsor a Child or Senior this holiday season!

Join FiDi Families in supporting Angel Tree and give back to families in need with the Angel Tree Toy Drive!

The Salvation Army Angel Tree holiday program provides new clothing and toys for local children in need. Specifically, the Downtown Angel Tree supports the 14th Street Salvation Army location, which serves children and families from 23rd Street to South Ferry. After a child has been registered as an Angel, The Salvation Army makes a promise to provide Christmas for them by fulfilling three items from their wish list.

New this year is the option to sponsor a senior.

Once you contact the volunteers at Angel Tree, you will be assigned a child, along with their wish list. Please adhere to this list as these may be the only gifts the Angel children receive this year. We want every child to have what they’re hoping for on Christmas morning so if for any reason you cannot complete their entire request, please let us know. If you want to send extra new toys or clothes please feel free, as there is no shortage of need.

Last year Angel Tree supported over 1000 children; we are the #1 contributor of Christmas list sponsorships at the 14th Street Salvation Army.

The Angel Tree process is as follows: you request a child or senior citizen and you will receive their wish list, which can include anything from Legos and dolls to winter coats and gloves. It runs the gamut, but no single gift is extravagant, and in almost all cases, these are the only gifts they will receive this year.

On average, the cost of sponsoring someone’s wish list is approximately $100. Any gifts above and beyond the wish list are greatly appreciated, but not expected.

All gifts are due by Sunday, December 15 at 15 Broad Street!

To learn more and to join this great cause, please send an email to 15BroadAngelTree@gmail.com

Peppa Pig’s Muddy Puddles Birthday Parties at The Little Gym

December 12, 2018 by Teresa Wang

Tired of the same ‘ole birthday party? Be the hostess with the most-est that your kids and their friends will enjoy! Be one of the first to have a party with Peppa Pig at The Little Gym, which includes everything needed for a memory-filled day while sparing parents the time-consuming hassles and pressure-filled process of planning a party. And the best part? A portion of the proceeds benefit Peppa’s Charity: Muddy Puddles Project, for pediatric cancer research.

Entertainment One’s Peppa Pig joins The Little Gym to bring you the best birthday party for your little one! In this season of giving, a birthday party with Peppa teaches little ones to use their birthdays as a vehicle to donate to others. Guests may donate to The Muddy Puddles Project in lieu of or in addition to a gift for the birthday child.  What better way to introduce and reinforce “giving to others” to your children! For more information, contact your local Little Gym for details here.

Charity Event at the Gaga Center

April 6, 2017 by Rachel Witzel

Charity Event at the Gaga Center

We hope to see all of our FiDi Families at this special charity event even if it is out of the hood! During this event kids will have fun running around playing the game of gaga and all money will benefit the Ronald McDonald House of NYC.

What is gaga? Gaga is a fast paced, high energy sport played in an octagonal pit. The more players the better! Somewhat like dodgeball, the game is played with a soft foam ball, and combines the skills of dodging, striking, running, and jumping, while trying to hit opponents with a ball below the knees. Players need to keep moving to avoid getting hit by the ball. Fun and easy, everyone gets a serious workout.

Date: Saturday, April 8th [Read more…] about Charity Event at the Gaga Center

One of our favorite traditions is displaying our h One of our favorite traditions is displaying our holiday cards on our wall. It’s been so fun to see pictures of our friends with their kids, their 4-legged pets or a beautiful card with no pictures and a note. The hard part is deciding when to take them down. In an effort to stay connected and to keep the conversation going with the kids, I think this year we will keep them up for a while longer. Connectivity is our theme for 2021 and grateful to see friends and family on our holiday wall this year. Any traditions we should know about for the new year? Please share!
