Charity Event at the Gaga Center

April 6, 2017 by Rachel Witzel

Charity Event at the Gaga Center

We hope to see all of our FiDi Families at this special charity event even if it is out of the hood! During this event kids will have fun running around playing the game of gaga and all money will benefit the Ronald McDonald House of NYC.

What is gaga? Gaga is a fast paced, high energy sport played in an octagonal pit. The more players the better! Somewhat like dodgeball, the game is played with a soft foam ball, and combines the skills of dodging, striking, running, and jumping, while trying to hit opponents with a ball below the knees. Players need to keep moving to avoid getting hit by the ball. Fun and easy, everyone gets a serious workout.

Date: Saturday, April 8th [Read more…]

FiDi Families was recently invited to the kick off event for the partnership between AccuWeather and the FDNY Foundation.  The AccuWeather team is helping spread awareness of both winter cold and fire safety during these chilly months. The AccuWeather team was on hand to share weather tips and to educate children. The Chief Executive Officer, of AccuWeather, Barry Lee Myers was on hand to present a check for $25,000 to the FDNY Foundation, in order to support their efforts in fire safety and winter preparedness.  The AccuWeather Ready program is a new year-round weather preparedness program that focuses on keeping people safe and informed. So, we were thrilled to be a part of this new and important initiative.

A number of FDNY dignitaries were on hand to celebrate this new program, including the 35th Chief of Department, James E. Leonard, the highest ranking uniformed member of the FDNY, overseeing 15,000 uniformed Firefighters and EMS personnel.

AccuWeather, the global leader in weather information and digital media, has extended its continued mission to save lives, protect property and help people prosper with its new severe weather preparedness program, AccuWeather Ready. It focuses on keeping consumers safe and informed. It’s an incredible program that is available to all New Yorkers. We attended the kickoff event and it was a chance to educate local school students on how to be ready for winter weather, with both being prepared and informed and with fire safety.

As part of this fantastic initiative, more than 80 local 1st grade students from the Bronx were taken through an interactive demonstration on the top causes of fires and how to learn about winter weather affects the dynamics of the cause for fire.

In today’s world, technology is key and AccuWeather is leading the charge with weather preparedness tips and tools including in-app push notifications when bad weather is approaching, personalized weather preparedness plans and so much more.  All of the AccuWeather Ready information is available on the 24/7 AccuWeather Network, AccuWeather.com/Ready and the AccuWeather app.

Little Water Radio Show Welcomes Habitat for Humanity & Kids In The Game

The Downtowner radio show welcomes Sabrina Lippman of Habitat for Humanity to the program on Thursday. This incredible organization has built homes throughout NY to help families that would not otherwise have the chance to own a home. The not-for-profit organization is based in the Financial District and is launching some great programs in Manhattan and Brooklyn, including a “Gingerbread Build” in SoHo, hosting the very successful “Women Build” event and many other fun and creative programs to help support the families that Habitat for Humanity supports. Their mission is to transform lives by building quality homes with families in need and by uniting all New Yorkers around the cause of affordable housing.

The 2nd half of our show will include a visit from Sheryl Katz, of Kids in the Game. This great organization is dedicated to developing New York City’s youth by providing opportunities through sports and fitness to the schools and communities they serve. Their goal is to encourage the next generation of leaders by instilling healthy habits, practicing an active lifestyle, and promoting personal growth through play and competition.
