Expand Your Imagination With “Taste the Clouds” at the Flea Theater

February 26, 2020 by Teresa Wang

Take a break from the rain and cold to an exciting new show indoors with your family on Sunday Mornings. New York City Children’s Theater welcomes you to their brand new show called Taste the Clouds, where kids can use their imaginations to explore the world around them.

“Can you touch the stars? See the music? Taste the Clouds? Join us on an adventure as a young girl learns to harness her imagination and use her senses to better understand the world around her.

Created by the award-winning company, Hit the Lights!, Taste the Clouds will take you on a journey of the senses using shadow puppetry, live music, and immersive theater.”

My kids thoroughly enjoyed the show. But as a kid that made a projector out of flashlight and mirrors to play school at home when I was 8, I might have enjoyed the show even more than my kids. Because of the show, I had a few more tricks up my sleeve to use on a rainy day to occupy my 3 little kids.

My First Nutcracker at the NYC Children’s Theater

My First Nutcracker at the NYC Children's Theater

FiDi Contributor Teresa Wang’s Review of My First Nutcracker at the NYC Children’s Theatre

Want to create holiday memories with your kids through experiences over material things that would otherwise clutter the home? Want something exciting and fun for your kids to enjoy indoors? Or have family and friends visiting on the weekends and want to see a show with the kids? My First Nutcracker is a great gift from loved ones to your little ones. NYC Children’s Theater 2019-20 season kicks off with a classic ballet but catered to the youngest of theatergoers.

My 6 yo, 4 yo and 1 yo, all loved the production and were mesmerized from beginning to end. The show was the perfect amount of time to let them experience a quintessential NYC holiday experience with the freedom to wiggle around and even interact with the performers. Whether your kids have never stepped foot in a theater or are seasoned veterans, this unique rendition will surely be a memory that little ones will cherish for years to come.

This is the New York City Children’s Theaters’ 23rd season with a classic holiday story adapted for young audiences. In the 50-minute production, fun-filled holiday adventure, audiences will travel with Clara and the Prince to a magical kingdom filled with delicious treats, dancing flowers, and a pesky mouse king.

My First Nutcracker is an introduction to the classic holiday story, directed and choreographed by Melissa Riker, Artistic Director of Kinesis Project, and written by Barbara Zinn Krieger. The all-female creative team includes: Set Designer– Sheryl Liu, Light Designer – Carolyn Wong, Costume Designer – Heather McDevitt Barton and Sound Designer– Megan Culle.

Pip's Island Debuts in NYC

Pip’s Island, is an immersive children’s live adventure, which will open its doors to the public on November 12th. FiDi Families was lucky enough to get a sneak peek at this incredible indoor destination and we can’t wait to see the full production with its creative characters and various badges to earn during the Pip’s Island experience.

The pioneering concept is unlike anything on the market worldwide; children, aged 4-10, will be transported into a fantastical world, filled with actors, animation, puppets and gadgets as they embark on an hour-long adventure across 12 diverse and surreal environments to save the island! It’s akin to entering a video game with the children conquering challenges and meeting an array of colorful characters.

One of the aspects about the experience that explorers will love is the chance to earn badges or “sparks” by completing activities developed by Pip’s Island experts. The team has been working on the program and educational aspects, utilizing the latest trends in play and educational curriculum. Be prepared to be mesmerized, challenged and motivated to earn a variety of badges. No two experiences are alike. Kids are going to love this new and unique experience and so will parents.

Life is funny. A year ago I was celebrating 20 yea Life is funny. A year ago I was celebrating 20 years of calling NYC home. A year later, our family is on a crazy career adventure in Miami, with a lot of unknowns.

But, we do know that we only get one life to live and jumping in feet first is the only way to live life to the fullest, at least in our minds 😂.

We are already in love with the Miami weather, the happy people, the gorgeous beaches 🏝 and the day tripping way of life. We arrived in FL w a suitcase each and a mask 😷. Happy that we are surrounded by mask-wearers. Wasn’t sure what to expect. But, we will be back in NYC this summer. Lots of decisions to make between now and then. But also lots of fun and exploring over the next few months.

The silver lining of the Covid world we live in is remote learning allows us to travel and say yes to new beginnings. Stay tuned for updates on the next chapter for our website, too.
