The Lower Manhattan Coastal Resiliency (LMCR) Project is an integrated coastal protection initiative aimed at reducing flood risk due to coastal storms and sea level rise in Lower Manhattan. The LMCR Project spans the Lower Manhattan coast from Montgomery Street to the northern end of Battery Park City and seeks to improve access to the waterfront and enhance public spaces in the community.

The LMCR Project is identified as a priority of the City of New York as outlined in the 2015 One New York: The Plan for a Strong and Just City, and coastal flood risk reduction for this area was a key component of the Governor’s Office of Storm Recovery Lower Manhattan NY Rising Community Reconstruction Plan. The LMCR Project builds upon several years of community planning efforts to improve the waterfront and additional support from the LMCR Project came from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) National Disaster Resilience Competition to address sea level rise, storm surge, and other impacts of climate change.

The project advances the City’s commitment to protect vulnerable communities through a fair and equitable community-based plan for resilience, recovery, and vitality. To develop and implement coastal protection measures that effectively meet the needs of the community, the City is working in partnership with many residents, community organizations, and businesses to assess design concepts. Residents will be able to provide critical input to shape the project through workshops, focus groups, and numerous other engagement activities throughout the duration of the project.

One of our favorite traditions is displaying our h One of our favorite traditions is displaying our holiday cards on our wall. It’s been so fun to see pictures of our friends with their kids, their 4-legged pets or a beautiful card with no pictures and a note. The hard part is deciding when to take them down. In an effort to stay connected and to keep the conversation going with the kids, I think this year we will keep them up for a while longer. Connectivity is our theme for 2021 and grateful to see friends and family on our holiday wall this year. Any traditions we should know about for the new year? Please share!
