Taste of Tribeca – A fabulous food festival in Lower Manhattan

June 1, 2017 by Denise Courter

Taste of Tribeca - A fabulous food festival in Lower Manhattan

The 23rd annual Taste of Tribeca took place on Saturday, May 20th and it was a huge success. The annual event is a fundraiser for two downtown elementary schools; PS 234 and PS 150. The event is a food lovers paradise with attendees able to taste food from over 60 restaurants from the downtown neighborhoods of Lower Manhattan.

We loved the interactive tent with Eataly Downtown. They allowed attendees to make their own pasta on the spot and the kids thought it was fabulous. The Taste of Tribeca allows participants to get up close and personal with some of the best restaurants in New York City. And, the restaurants seem to have a great time as well.

The event isn’t just geared towards adults. There is also a fun kids and sports zone, a beer and wine tour and a VIP section, with a team of volunteers serving guests at reserved tables. It is a great opportunity to explore Tribeca, with the streets closed to traffic and a fun atmosphere for all ages to enjoy. The event takes place on Duane Street, between Greenwich and Hudson. Attendees purchase one ticket, which allows them six tastes from any participating restaurant. There is nothing better than sampling some of the best food in Tribeca for a fraction of the price. Some of the restaurants signature dishes were on display and attendees seemed very happy to stand in line, knowing the wait would be worth it.

There were many well-known and respected chefs and restaurant owners exploring the Taste of Tribeca. We were lucky enough to say hello to Drew Nieporent, the Founder of the Myriad Restaurant Group and James Beard Award winner among many other accolades.

There were many fantastic restaurants and businesses that participated. This year 2 beer/cider tastings were added along with a complimentary water per ticket! And, we loved the wine tasting with City Winery. Nothing like Rosé All Day!

The event benefits Tribeca’s PS 150 and PS 234 – can’t beat eating for a good cause! Proceeds support arts and enrichment programs for public schools, PS 150 and PS 234. Programs include ballroom dancing, puppetry, storytelling, art supplies and musical instruments for every 5th grader.

One of our favorite traditions is displaying our h One of our favorite traditions is displaying our holiday cards on our wall. It’s been so fun to see pictures of our friends with their kids, their 4-legged pets or a beautiful card with no pictures and a note. The hard part is deciding when to take them down. In an effort to stay connected and to keep the conversation going with the kids, I think this year we will keep them up for a while longer. Connectivity is our theme for 2021 and grateful to see friends and family on our holiday wall this year. Any traditions we should know about for the new year? Please share!
