Pumpkin Point at Governors Island

Preschool Art on Thursday’s

July 22, 2015 by Deirdre McAndrew

Preschool Art

Preschool Art on Thursday’s! Very young artists are introduced to paper, clay, wood, and paint. Each Thursday an art educator will present a new art project perfectly planned for toddler and preschooler skills. All materials are provided!

Dress for a mess! While the kids get creative, parents and caretakers can enjoy the beautiful views of the Hudson River and the splendor of Rockefeller Park’s lawns and plant life.

This program was great during the school year and is even better to add to the summer routine! Children will learn, imagine, and create. Preschool Art meets by the Park House at Rockefeller Park; enter the park near Murray Street.

Battery Park City extends for over a mile along the Hudson River, from Chambers Street South to the Battery in Lower Manhattan. Battery Park City Park Conservancy believes in developing an environmental consciousness to the public. They carry this vision out through programs they offer and the amazing upkeep of the land throughout Battery Park.

Rockefeller Park contains most of BPC Parks’ wide lawns, in addition to a large playground, plantings and gardens, public art pieces, and a sheltered pavilion. BPC Parks staff are also available to provide assistance and information at the Park House, off River Terrace between Murray Street and Park Place West.

Wednesday’s in Teardrop Park!

July 21, 2015 by Deirdre McAndrew

Teardrop Park

Wednesday’s in Teardrop Park! This is an afternoon of fun for school-age children to join in creative art activities and spirited games in Teardrop Park every Wednesday. Artists of all ages and abilities are welcome! Come enjoy the beautiful outdoor weather while completing paintings, collages, sculptures, and art projects inspired by nature! The art portion occurs during the entire duration of the program, for children who prefer this over running around!

After testing their creativity, let the lawn games begin! Starting at 4:30 children will take advantage of the Teardrop Park landscape through a number of group games. These will cater to children with an array of interests with games ranging from but not limited to dramatic play to tag and capture the flag.

Your children will come home to you with a wonderful art project and tired out from an afternoon filled with fun!

Teardrop Park is a 1.8-acre public park in lower Manhattan with shade, an irregular space, and beautiful gardens to coordinated with the development of four surrounding apartment buildings. Being that children are the most important users of Teardrop, the park is designed to fulfill the need for urban children’s natural experience. This quaint little getaway offers adventure and engages the child’s mind and body.

Date: Wednesday, July 22nd

One of our favorite traditions is displaying our h One of our favorite traditions is displaying our holiday cards on our wall. It’s been so fun to see pictures of our friends with their kids, their 4-legged pets or a beautiful card with no pictures and a note. The hard part is deciding when to take them down. In an effort to stay connected and to keep the conversation going with the kids, I think this year we will keep them up for a while longer. Connectivity is our theme for 2021 and grateful to see friends and family on our holiday wall this year. Any traditions we should know about for the new year? Please share!
