Governor's Island

Pumpkin Point at Governors Island

October 16, 2020 by Denise Courter

Pumpkin Point at Governors Island

Once again, Governors Island has transformed Nolan Park into “Pumpkin Point”, a free, family-friendly patch of over 5,000 pumpkins on the last two weekends in October. Families are invited to stroll through the pumpkin patch, admire the fall theme decor and take home a free pumpkin! Because of Covid regulations, there will be no activities or concessions offered.

Pumpkin Point 2020 will be a socially distanced event with plenty of room for visitors to spread out and enjoy the patch. Governors Island visitors are required to maintain social distance of at least 6 feet and to wear face coverings whenever social distancing is not possible, and at all times when boarding, riding, and disembarking ferries.

FiDi Families Insiders: Ferry reservations are required to visit Governors Island.

Date(s): October 24th – November 1

Time: 10 am – 6 pm

Location: Governors Island – Nolan Park

Age(s): All ages welcome

Cost: Free to visit

Have you had a chance to visit Governors Island this Summer? If not, we have a great family-friendly event to attend, with the Poetry Society of New York. The festival features poets from over 75 poetry organizations on its three main stages; a Vendor’s Village where local booksellers, artists and craft makers sell their wares; healthy and delicious food options; a beer garden sponsored by Brooklyn Brewery, poetry-inspired installation art throughout; the Ring of Daisies open mic; and other poetic festivities. One major highlight of the festival each year is its Youth Poetry Festival, which offers children and young adults the opportunity to participate in interactive writing games, to generate new work, and to perform their work on stage alongside some of the greatest living writers. This year the festival is honored to welcome two-time poetry laureate Robert Pinsky to the island, along with over 250 other writers of all shapes and sizes. By uniting the largest community of poets in the country and offering a unique setting for literary activity, the New York City Poetry Festival electrifies arts and literature and brings poetry to new light in the public eye.

Time: 11 am – 5 pm

Location: Colonels Row on Governors Island
