Fourth Annual Math Festival at 28 Liberty Plaza (FREE)

Fosun Hosts Free Math Festival on 28 Liberty Plaza

FiDi Families welcomes the National Museum of Mathematics (MoMath) to 28 Liberty Plaza for the second annual New York City Math Festival.

The full day of mathematical fun will feature hands-on math exhibits, entertaining mathematical games, intriguing puzzles, brain teasers. Among other performances, educator John Chase will reveal the secrets of mathematics and demonstrate a juggler’s ability to anticipate the path of a ball or club in space and time.

The New York City Math Festival will also feature:

  • Performances by mathematical mimes, Tim and Tanya Chartier, in a series of fun vignettes that illustrate the concepts of estimation, tiling, and infinity

  • Group constructions of giant sculptures, including the amazing rainbow-colored hyberbolic Hilbert’s Rainbow with mathematician Chaim Goodman-Straus and the six-foot tall geometric structure Goldberg Variations with mathematician David Reimann.  If you can thread a cable tie through a hole or count to six, you can help!

  • Formations of mathematical patterns using Math-on-a-Stick from the Minnesota State Fair with math educator, Chris Danielson

  • Engaging puzzles and brainteasers with the Julia Robinson Math Festival

Schimmel Center at Pace University Presents THEOREM with Greg Kennedy

Schimmel Center at Pace University Presents THEOREM with Greg Kennedy

One of the most amazing jugglers in the nation is Greg Kennedy, a former member of Cirque du Soleil. He is headed to the Schimmel Center at Pace University, which is a big honor for Lower Manhattan. His imagery and juggling are hard to put into words, but the folks at the Schimmel Center at Pace University managed to do just that…

“After touring worldwide with Cirque du Soleil for five years, Greg Kennedy is getting rave reviews for his newest production, Theorem. The two-time international juggling champion and his cast of circus artists perform a show that playfully explores the process of invention through modern manipulation. Theorem is filled with striking, powerful images, and features live music, five-person choreography, aerial acrobatics and Greg’s largest dynamic structures”.

Originally trained as an engineer, Greg uses the principles of geometry and physics to create groundbreaking work with original apparatus. As a young juggler he quickly made a name for himself in the juggling community not only by his mastery of traditional juggling technique, but also for creating entirely new forms of manipulation. He is now renowned for his many original contributions to juggling as an art form. Jugglers know him for his award-winning creativity; audiences know him for his entertaining performance, making visual spectacles out of everyday objects.

Grateful that our kids (and parents) get this socialization after a year of remote learning.

Friends are the best gift ever. Memories of a lifetime. Grateful that we had the best weather, so many outdoor activities and expert mask-wearers.
