Laurie Berkner

Pillowland, Based on Laurie Berkner’s Hit Song, is the Newest Interactive Play Your Kids Will Love!

November 10, 2018 by Teresa Wang

Pillowland by Laurie Berkner is the Newest Interactive Play Your Kids Will Love!

Pillowland is an interactive play about a boy named Stanley that cannot fall asleep. He and his friends go on an adventure to find out how to sleep, and you can tag along for the ride! Stanley always has trouble falling asleep – even counting sheep doesn’t help! When he receives an invitation to visit the Kingdom of Pillowland, he sets off on an exciting adventure with his friends Finn, Quinn and audience members are invited along for the ride!

This show is perfect for the entire family, including the first time theater goer as we even brought our 3-month-old and did not feel out of place. My 5 & 3-year-olds are veteran theatre goers, but they especially loved this novel experience of an interactive performance. Kids and adults were all laughing hysterically and embracing the fun. All of the kids were encouraged to participate and laugh throughout the show. Veteran or newbie, your kids do not want to miss this amazing show! And, as huge fans of Laurie Berkner, we loved getting to see her song “Pillowland” come to life.

BENEFIT CONCERT FOR THIRD STREET MUSIC SCHOOL SETTLEMENT

January 22, 2015 by Deirdre McAndrew

BENEFIT CONCERT FOR THIRD STREET MUSIC SCHOOL SETTLEMENT

BENEFIT CONCERT FOR THIRD STREET MUSIC SCHOOL SETTLEMENT. Hailed as “the queen of children’s music” by People Magazine, Laurie Berkner will perform a solo concert benefiting Third Street Music School Settlement.

The concert, Berkner’s only New York City show this season, is part of an ongoing series of events celebrating the 120th anniversary of Third Street Music School Settlement, whose alumni range from Broadway and film composer Robert Lopez (Book of Mormon, Frozen) and indie pop star Ingrid Michaelson (Girls Chase Boys) to 1920s hit-maker Irving Caesar (Tea for Two).

Third Street was founded in 1894 as part of the settlement movement, offering music instruction and social services to the Lower East Side’s immigrant population. Today its East Village location provides music and dance instruction to nearly 5,000 students ranging in age from toddlers to senior citizens, with more than 75% benefiting from financial aid and free or low-cost instruction. The school’s dual goal of access and excellence ensures that all its students reach their full potential, wherever this aspirations and talents lead them.

One of our favorite traditions is displaying our h One of our favorite traditions is displaying our holiday cards on our wall. It’s been so fun to see pictures of our friends with their kids, their 4-legged pets or a beautiful card with no pictures and a note. The hard part is deciding when to take them down. In an effort to stay connected and to keep the conversation going with the kids, I think this year we will keep them up for a while longer. Connectivity is our theme for 2021 and grateful to see friends and family on our holiday wall this year. Any traditions we should know about for the new year? Please share!
