NYC Application for Pre-Kindergarten

December 21, 2016 by Rachel Witzel

2017prekforallslider

Starting January 17th, you can fill out a Pre-K application for your child to begin school with the New York City Department of Education. But don’t wait until then to start preparing – take action now by using the 2017 NYC Pre-K Directory which will help narrow down schools of interest. The application is designed to allow parents to rank their options in order of preference, with zones and admissions priorities remaining unchanged. All families, including those of students with disabilities and current pre-k students, should submit an application. Admission is not first come, first served. All applications received by the deadline are treated the same.

Through February 24th, you can apply:

  • Online
  • Over the phone by calling 718-935-2400
  • In person at an Enrollment Office

For more information and to apply please visit their website HERE

Sing for Hope

June 1, 2016 by Deirdre McAndrew

Sing For Hope

Sing for Hope. Celebrate 5 years of The Sing for Hope Pianos, a community arts program, with a launch event. The Sing for Hope Pianos program has placed 286 public instruments throughout NYC, making the city host to more street pianos than any other in the world.

Sing for Hope selects local and international artists to create pianos that are then placed in parks and other public spaces for two weeks every summer. Through a special partnership with the New York City Department of Education, Sing for Hope will then place all of the Sing for Hope Pianos permanently in NYC public schools, benefiting thousands of school children. One piano also will be donated to one of the NY-area veterans’ care centers where Sing for Hope provides year-round arts programming.

One of our favorite traditions is displaying our h One of our favorite traditions is displaying our holiday cards on our wall. It’s been so fun to see pictures of our friends with their kids, their 4-legged pets or a beautiful card with no pictures and a note. The hard part is deciding when to take them down. In an effort to stay connected and to keep the conversation going with the kids, I think this year we will keep them up for a while longer. Connectivity is our theme for 2021 and grateful to see friends and family on our holiday wall this year. Any traditions we should know about for the new year? Please share!
