November 6, 2019 by Denise Courter

27th Annual Canstruction Competition with City Harvest at Brookfield Place

Brookfield Place is hosting the 27th Annual Canstruction competition featuring unique sculptures made from unopened cans of food. The Canstruction competition challenges more than 20 teams of architects, engineers, and contractors to build sculptures made entirely out of cans of food. The unique structures will be placed on display and later donated to City Harvest for distribution to those in need.

Canstruction® New York has donated over 2 million pounds of food to local food banks since 1993, and over 1.2 million pounds to City Harvest since 2006. Since 1992, Canstruction® has raised nearly 82 million pounds of food for hunger relief organizations around the world with its signature, trademarked CanArt.®

City Harvest, 5013 nonprofit, operates in New York City through food rescue and distribution, and education. Since 1982, City Harvest has rescued more than 500 million pounds of food for hungry New Yorkers.

FiDi Families Insiders: Visitors are encouraged to bring cans to donate to City Harvest at Brookfield Place.

Think Possible Workshop: Presenting the Weather with Al Roker!

February 23, 2015 by Deirdre McAndrew

Think Possible Workshop: Presenting the Weather with Al Roker!

Think Possible Workshop: Presenting the Weather with Al Roker! America’s favorite weatherman, Al Roker, will host the next “Think Possible” workshop! Al will share his expertise and the science behind his profession by leading participants in a first-ever workshop on presenting the weather and meteorology. The audience will also have the opportunity to interact with a green screen set-up and present the weather themselves!

The event will be the second of the “Think Possible” workshops, a series of community events led by a diverse group of influencers and thought leaders all dedicated to showcasing the power of a great education and raising awareness about the failing schools crisis.

Don’t Steal Possible is a grassroots movement focused on ending the education crisis that traps thousands of children in failing New York schools. The workshop aims to spark creative passions among New Yorkers and to support the right of all New York children to have access to great schools.

Al Roker, host and weatherman of NBC’s Today Show, along with Savannah Guthrie and Matt Lauer, has the undivided attention of the nation (over 32 million viewers per week) every weekday morning as America prepares for work.

Spanning a 35-year plus career and a thirteen-time Emmy winner, Al conducts interviews with celebrities and newsmakers around the world and does a wide variety of segments on every imaginable subject. He is the host of NBC’s annual holiday network specials, such as the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the Christmas Tree Lighting at Rockefeller Center, and The Rose Bowl Parade.

Date: Saturday, February 28th [Read more…] about Think Possible Workshop: Presenting the Weather with Al Roker!

One of our favorite traditions is displaying our h One of our favorite traditions is displaying our holiday cards on our wall. It’s been so fun to see pictures of our friends with their kids, their 4-legged pets or a beautiful card with no pictures and a note. The hard part is deciding when to take them down. In an effort to stay connected and to keep the conversation going with the kids, I think this year we will keep them up for a while longer. Connectivity is our theme for 2021 and grateful to see friends and family on our holiday wall this year. Any traditions we should know about for the new year? Please share!
