Halloween Bash at Brookfield Place

Halloween Events and Activities in Lower Manhattan - FiDi Families Faves!

Brookfield Place transforms into a Halloween Spectacular with activities for the whole family including Cosmic Disco, a Lego Photo Op, Sweetbeatz live kids band, Drag Queen Storytime, Razzle Dazzle magic, a Costume “Catwalk” for you to strut your stuff and show off your best Halloween costume and Trick-or-Treating in many of the stores. Plus, Jam with Jamie will be performing at Monica + Andy. Kids are encouraged to wear their costumes for a costume contest. This particular celebration will be from 11 am – 1 pm, which is different than the rest of the Halloween Bash, which is from 12:00 pm – 3 pm.

Date: Saturday, October 26th

Time: 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Location: Brookfield Place

Age(s): All ages welcome

5th Annual Pumpkin Carving Contest

Halloween Events and Activities in Lower Manhattan - FiDi Families Faves!

 

How good are your Jack o’ Lantern carving skills? Bring out the best you can do and start creating your masterpiece. Please note that all pumpkins must be carved in advance. Bring CARVED pumpkins to the park to be judged in one of five categories: cutest, scariest, funniest, most creative and most realistic. Judging begins at 5:30 pm; winners announced at 6:00 pm. Battery-operated candles will be provided.

Date: Saturday, October 26th

Time: 4:45 pm – 6:00 pm

Location: Washington Market Park – Chambers & Greenwich St.

Age(s): All ages welcome

Cost: Free

FiDi Families Insiders: Entries submitted 4:45-5:30 pm. Judging begins 5:30 pm sharp

5th Annual Léman Manhattan Halloween Bash

Léman Manhattan invites downtown families to a Halloween Bash at the Broad Street Ballroom. Kids are invited to decorate pumpkins, listen to live music and get their faces painted and more.

Date: Sunday, October 27th

Time: 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Location: 41 Broad Street (Broad Street Ballroom)

Age(s): All ages welcome

Cost: $25/family and complimentary for Léman families

Halloween Costume Parade and Party at Washington Market Park

Come dressed up and join hundreds of families parade the sidewalk then celebrate at Washington Market Park with games and more for the kids!

Date: Sunday, October 27th

Time: 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Location: Parade starts near CitiGroup Plaza – on the corner of Beach & North Moore St. then heads south on Greenwich Street to Washington Market Park

Age(s): All ages welcome

Cost: Free

FiDi Families Insiders: Strollers are not allowed inside the park, during the party.

Governors Island Pumpkin Point

Halloween Events and Activities in Lower Manhattan - FiDi Families Faves!

Governors Island has transformed its own Nolan Park into “Pumpkin Point”, a free, family-friendly patch of over 5,000 pumpkins on the last two weekends in October. Families are invited to stroll through the pumpkin patch and enjoy free, Halloween-inspired arts and craft activities with Children’s Museum of the Arts including pumpkin painting and costume-making workshops, and enjoy festive fare from Governor’s Island vendors Little Eva’s & Threes Brewing.

FiDi Families Insiders: On Saturday, October 26th, kids are invited to meet at 1:00 pm for trick-or-treating at Nolan Park, while supplies last.

Date(s): Saturday, October 26th and Sunday, October 27th

Time: Regular park hours, but Pumpkin Point closes at 5:00 pm

Location: Governors Island – Nolan Park

Age(s): All ages welcome

Cost: Free to attend. Pumpkins and food available for purchase.

Halloween Dog Costume Contest

Halloween Events and Activities in Lower Manhattan - FiDi Families Faves!

Dog owners and their pets are invited to join the last Yappy Hour of 2019 with a costume contest hosted by Downtown Magazine. Doggie giveaways, $5 beers, photo ops, adoptable pups and a chance to win one night at Four Seasons.

Washington Market Park Christmas Celebration

Washington Market Park Christmas Celebration

Washington Market Park Christmas Celebration. The Friends of Washington Market Park are excited for this year’s annual Christmas party. Come welcome the guest of honor, Santa! This is a great opportunity for kids sit on Santa’s lap and let him know what they are wishing for this year. This also gives your family a chance to give back. Don’t forget to bring an unwrapped gift to support a local children’s organization (TBD) to the part! 

Teachers from the Church Street School for Music and Art will help children with arts and crafts. Musical entertainment will be carols by the Trinity Youth Chorus will perform carols. Don’t miss out on the complimentary homemade cookies and hot apple cider. 

The Friends of Washington Market Park is a non-profit neighborhood organization that plans free public events in the park and supports park restoration and improvements. Their events are seasonally appropriate throughout the year.

Pumpkin Carving Contest

Pumpkin Carving Contest

Pumpkin Carving Contest. Halloween is almost here! Come kick off the week with this free first annual community event brought to us by The Friends of Washington Market Park.

The contest will be broken down into scariest, funniest, and most creative. Winners will receive prize ribbons. Bring your own pumpkin and enter the contest or stop by to enjoy the display. All are welcome to enter including residents, stores, restaurants, and schools. 

If you would like to be apart of the contest bring your completely carved pumpkin to Washington Market Park between 5p and 6p. You cannot carve at the actual event. Electronic candles will be provided to light pumpkins. Judging starts at 6p and winners will be announced shortly after.

Participants are allowed to bring pumpkins home or can leave them to be decoration for the Halloween party and parade the following day. If you choose to display your pumpkin, claim it by Sunday at 3p.

The Friends of Washington Market Park always schedule events with the support of the Department of Parks & Recreation and contributions from neighborhood residents. Keep an eye out for more later this fall.

Halloween Costume Parade and Party

The Friends of Washington Market Park Annual Halloween Costume Parade and Party.

Halloween Costume Parade and Party. Save the date! Come and celebrate at the 2015 Halloween Parade and Party at Washington Market Park. This annual event is the park’s longest running event, and a highlight of the year for kids throughout the neighborhood. Friend volunteers run free events including penny-in-a-haystack, a bone dig in the sandbox, and a hay circle on the lawn.

No Strollers will be permitted  in the park during the event.There will be a free stroller-check at Duane and Greenwich streets, run by volunteers.

Parade line-up begins at 12:45 near CitiGroup Plaza and will travel south along Greenwich Street to the park.
