Ice Cream Round Up – All the best spots you must visit!

June 7, 2017 by Cari Gelber

You scream, I scream, we all scream for ICE CREAM!

Summer’s around the corner, the ice cream trucks are back out on every block and we’re highlighting our favorite ice cream spots all throughout the city.

Ice Cream Round Up - All the best spots you must visit!

10Below

Have you tried the new addiction – Thai-style ice cream rolls? After you select your flavor, watch as the liquid ice cream is poured onto a sub-zero cold plate and transforms in less then 2 minutes, right before your eyes into delicious, flattened ice cream rolls. A hint: unlimited toppings- need we say more!

Address: 10 Mott St., 132 Allen St. and 42 1/2 St. Marks Place

Big Gay Ice Cream Shop
What started as an ice cream truck now has an outpost multiple outposts around the city. They take old school traditional flavors mixed in with a unique twist of toppings that satisfies all of our cravings from nilla wafers, mini marshmallows and dark chocolate pretzels. Coming soon to the Seaport District!

Address: 125 E. 7th St., 353 W. 14th St., 61 Grove St.

Ice Cream Round Up - All the best spots you must visit! A La Mode Shoppe
A family favorite, especially for families with children with food allergies. This is the ONLY homemade small batch, allergy friendly ice cream shop in the city! They offer nut-free, egg-free, and sesame-free ice cream with gluten-free and dairy free options as well as nut-free toppings. Their signature Blue Cotton Candy ice cream can put a smile on any kids face.  In addition to delicious, fun, ice cream flavors the store also is a kids boutique with ice cream themed trinkets, jewelry, clothing and more.

Address: 360 E. 55th St.

Ice & Vice
This handcrafted small batch ice cream shop calls themselves “experimental” and they’re not kidding- with flavors you would never dream of from seasonal specials like: Ants on a Farm-Raisin,Celery,Gianduja Chocolate Chips and Pickles of the Caribbean-Rum, Coconut and Pickled Pineapple Jam to their “basics” which are definitely not anything of the sort! Smoked Dark Chocolate, Toasted Milk and Vietnamese Coffee to name a few.
Address: 221 E. Broadway

Ice Cream Round Up - All the best spots you must visit! Cool Mess
Here’s a twist on a traditional ice cream shop- at Cool Mess, you get to create your own ice cream from scratch right at your table. Choose a base flavor (Chocolate or Vanilla) then fill your bowl with all of your favorite mix ins (over 25 to choose from), add it into the ice cream machine and viola!
Address: 137 E. 62nd St.

Snowdays Shaved Cream Co.
A new type of dessert, meet Shaved Cream, hailing from Taiwan- a mix between shaved ices, that almost looks like and has the consistency of snow and tastes like ice cream. A variety of out of the box flavors from NY Cheesecake to roasted Black Sesame, definitely something to try.
Address: 241 E. 10th St. 167 7th Avenue South

Cool Mess – Ice Cream You Can Make!

April 27, 2017 by Denise Courter

Cool Mess - Ice Cream You Can Make!

FiDi Families was recently invited to visit Cool Mess on the Upper East Side. Definitely out of our neighborhood and definitely worth the trek.

Guests are invited to sit at a table that has an ice cream maker, ready for mixing up your own recipe or following one of the Cool Mess favorites, known as “messipes”. Simply choose a base flavor (vanilla or chocolate) and select your ingredients (there are over 20 toppings to choose from). The creation of the ice cream is simple and once your ingredients are in the ice cream maker, it only takes 8 minutes for your creation to be ready to eat. In addition to the ice cream making, Cool Mess serves up a full menu of great food, sundaes, ice cream shakes and gelato.

Cool Mess - Ice Cream You Can Make!

The event space is perfect for a birthday party or celebration, whether for kids or grownups. The fun music, the fun decor and view over Lexington Avenue, make it a great spot for entertaining. A designated party coordinator is also assigned to a booked party.

Cool Mess - Ice Cream You Can Make!

We loved the fun of creating delicious ice cream, dancing to the fun music and taking home our homemade ice cream and doing some candy shopping on their candy wall!

Cool Mess - Ice Cream You Can Make!

It’s a great spot to take friends or treat the kids and we can’t wait to return to whip up some new “messiness” at Cool Mess! This incredible destination is located above Burger Heaven and owned by the same family. Guests can order off the Cool Mess menu or of course, eat downstairs.

Location: 137 East 62nd Street, 2nd Floor

One of our favorite traditions is displaying our h One of our favorite traditions is displaying our holiday cards on our wall. It’s been so fun to see pictures of our friends with their kids, their 4-legged pets or a beautiful card with no pictures and a note. The hard part is deciding when to take them down. In an effort to stay connected and to keep the conversation going with the kids, I think this year we will keep them up for a while longer. Connectivity is our theme for 2021 and grateful to see friends and family on our holiday wall this year. Any traditions we should know about for the new year? Please share!
