Homeless Outreach – Volunteers Needed

January 19, 2017 by Rachel Witzel

Homeless Outreach - Volunteers Needed

If you’re looking to help out in the community the Department of Homeless Services is looking for volunteers as they conduct their annual homeless outreach population estimate, known as HOPE. They do it in an ongoing effort to engage and help bring indoors New Yorkers experiencing homelessness. On the night of HOPE, volunteers will help canvas parks, subways, and other public spaces to estimate the number of people who are street homeless.

The organization is in need of 3,000 volunteers and local help is critical. The effort of this initiative is to help move homeless people from the streets to a safe and stable environment.

We hope you can help! [Read more…] about Homeless Outreach – Volunteers Needed

Kid Volunteer’s Needed for Coil Festival Piece

January 5, 2017 by Rachel Witzel

Children Volunteer's Wanted for Coil Festival Piece

The art’s organization Performance Space 122 is seeking 120 kid’s between ages 8 and 12 to volunteer for 1 of 4 performances, containing 30 kids per show. The show is for the Coil Festival that Performance 122 puts on yearly, going on now until January 22nd. Coil Festival explores the importance of live performance in NYC through contemporary artists from diverse genres, cultures, and perspectives.

Your child would be performing in a unique piece being presented in the festival from January 9th through 12th called Blind Cinema. In a cinema space, the audience sits blindfolded. A child seated behind describes, in hushed and fragile tones, a film that only they will see, and only this once. The idea is to change how they experience storytelling and cinema. Your child will be supervised by teachers and parents the whole time they are volunteering. [Read more…] about Kid Volunteer’s Needed for Coil Festival Piece

One of our favorite traditions is displaying our h One of our favorite traditions is displaying our holiday cards on our wall. It’s been so fun to see pictures of our friends with their kids, their 4-legged pets or a beautiful card with no pictures and a note. The hard part is deciding when to take them down. In an effort to stay connected and to keep the conversation going with the kids, I think this year we will keep them up for a while longer. Connectivity is our theme for 2021 and grateful to see friends and family on our holiday wall this year. Any traditions we should know about for the new year? Please share!
