Home Depot Kids Workshop (FREE)

January 3, 2017 by Rachel Witzel

Home Depot Kids Workshop (FREE)

Every once in a while, we write about events outside of Lower Manhattan. A great example is sharing info on the monthly kids workshops at the Home Depot. It’s worth the jump on the subway or taxi to take advantage of this fun, free and family-friendly event.

Kids are invited to join the team from Home Depot to create a wood toolbox they can use for keeping anything from art supplies to toys neat and portable. Once the toolbox is built, your child can paint it in their favorite color, so dress them appropriately!

Plus, kids get to keep their craft, receive a FREE certificate of achievement, a workshop apron, and a pin while supplies last!

Children must be present at the store to participate in the workshop and receive the kit, apron and pin.

Date: Saturday, January 7th 2017 [Read more…] about Home Depot Kids Workshop (FREE)

Children and Cyber Security – FREE Workshop

November 20, 2015 by Denise Courter

Children and Cyber Security - FREE Workshop

Internet usage among children is very common for all ages. Many parents want to learn about safety and security, as it relates to their children. The Leman Community Association in partnership with the Peck Slip School are inviting parents to attend this important workshop with a leading expert on the topic, Tyler Cohen Wood. With her insight and experience, Ms. Wood will review and cover the following topics:

  • When is it appropriate to give children their own cell phone?
  • Geo-tagging: what is it and why is it dangerous?
  • Different online ways a predator can build a pattern of life to target you or your children.
  • What is the appropriate use of social media and how it can affect your personal relationships.
  • What social media means to our children v. what it means to us, both in terms of socialization and how we view others and ourselves.
  • How what you share on social media today can affect your future.
  • Ways you can monitor your child online and how to tell your child you are involved.
  • How to put yourself in your child’s mind-set so that you can better understand the selfie culture.
  • Our children are under an extreme amount of stress based solely on how their online profile is received by their peers.
  • Can 1 bad selfie destroy your child’s reputation?
  • How parents can contextualize that and help alleviate the burden.

Life is funny. A year ago I was celebrating 20 yea Life is funny. A year ago I was celebrating 20 years of calling NYC home. A year later, our family is on a crazy career adventure in Miami, with a lot of unknowns.

But, we do know that we only get one life to live and jumping in feet first is the only way to live life to the fullest, at least in our minds 😂.

We are already in love with the Miami weather, the happy people, the gorgeous beaches 🏝 and the day tripping way of life. We arrived in FL w a suitcase each and a mask 😷. Happy that we are surrounded by mask-wearers. Wasn’t sure what to expect. But, we will be back in NYC this summer. Lots of decisions to make between now and then. But also lots of fun and exploring over the next few months.

The silver lining of the Covid world we live in is remote learning allows us to travel and say yes to new beginnings. Stay tuned for updates on the next chapter for our website, too.
